Brienne Gacke

Hello and welcome to my online portfolio, featuring my work from over six years in journalism and related fields. I am a writer in both my professional and personal life, creating excellent, engaging content for work and pleasure. I am currently proud to be working as a Newsroom Editor for Business Wire, a global media distribution service with a high standard of quality and accuracy.

I have created content in both print and online mediums, and my experience as a editor and teacher gives me a well-rounded and complete understanding of the creative process. Whether helping others to reach their full potential through editing or guiding their writing or creating my own, my skill, experience, and love of the English language ensure that I produce high-quality work no matter the content and no matter the medium.

I can be contacted via the email button above, or at brgacke@gmail.com.

Please note: I previously worked under the name Reid Gacke but I no longer use that name (nor identify as male). However, currently all of my previous bylines and correspondence use that name. I can, by request, prove that my legal name was (and for the time being still is) Reid Anthony Gacke.

I apologize for any confusion this may cause.

"His accuracy, wit and fairness to our City, while covering news topics, has never ceased to amaze me."

Mike Buchite, Taylors Falls Mayor

"[Reid] is easy to work with, honest, and reliable. I do not recall having any incident involving Reid in which I observed him to be anything but competent and professional."

Peter Johnson, Polk County Sheriff

"I have been in the education world for 30 years...I have been a part of many news stories both positive and not so positive. There have been times where I have seen relationships with the media become less team oriented and more adversarial. With Reid, it was always positive. This is not to say [that] all of the articles reported on were easy to talk about or to write about. Quite the contrary. Reid always reported the news."

Mark Burandt, St. Croix Falls School Superintendent

Below are examples of my mainstream and online reporting with two different publications. To view more of my work, choose the appropriate selection from the top menu.

Eleven charges, “hate crimes” dropped

At the 11th Hour, however, the three-day jury trial was quietly switched to a plea hearing, and Attorneys Kemp and Firkus reported that they had come to an agreement: Seline would plead guilty to second degree reckless endangerment, substantial battery, disorderly conduct and hit and run. This left numerous other charges - including the more serious first degree reckless endangerment four - dropped, but read in for sentencing purposes. In addition, all of the “hate crime” modifiers were dropped as Kemp stated that he believed Seline’s crimes to be motivated more by jealousy than racism. Kemp later admitted that, though there were racial epithets being used by Seline, there wasn’t enough evidence of racial motivation to hold up in a trial setting, and that it was far more likely that he was motivated by jealousy of whom his girlfriend was spending time with, along with general escalation of the confrontation.

Mighty No. 9 Review - Modern Robotics - OnlySP

After all the delays and all the drama and all the prom night tears of anime fans, we’ve finally gotten our articulated robotic digits on the long-awaited Mighty No. 9. Billed not so much as a spiritual successor to the Mega Man series, but as a complete rehashing from the original creator with new technology and no Capcom hanging around to get their grubby hooks in it. The real question now is: does Mighty No. 9 live up to that lofty pedigree? The simple answer is: yes it does. Mighty No. 9 is Mega Man in all but name, which is fantastic news to old school fans of the series like myself. There are some fresh ideas here, but the game translates all the running and gunning and robot smashing/assimilating from Mega Man to a new, bright, shiny package.
